What is a IPS e.max®?

IPS e.max® is made of monolithic lithium disilicate ceramic and delivers outstanding esthetics and precision fit. An affordable alternative to PFMs and zirconia-based restorations, IPS e.max can be pressed or milled using Enhanced CEREC® software and the Sirona inLab® MC XL milling machine.

Prescribe IPS e.max to achieve optimal esthetics, virtually perfect contacts and occlusion, and impressive strength. Its unique lithium disilicate ceramic provides flexural strength of 360-400 MPa, making it the ideal high-strength solution for single-unit anterior or posterior crowns, veneers, inlays, onlays, screw-retained implant crowns, 3-unit anterior bridges or restorations with minimum preparation dimensions.

Conventionally cement using resin ionomer cements or bond for maximum retention on non-retentive preparations. Lithium disilicate ceramic is biocompatible and provides more than double the flexural strength of IPS Empress® Esthetic.

What is a Zirconia Crown?

Advantages of Having Zirconium Crown

Zirconium is becoming one of the most chosen materials for dental crowns. Its many advantages include:

• Extraordinarily tough

• Can withstand wear and tear

• Translucent enough to be similar to natural teeth

• Less tooth removal

• No Metal fuse

• Modifiable size, shape and color

• Biocompatible

It is a fact that gold crowns have been used by many people for so many years and it is well tolerated by the body. But it is still better to be able to show that natural effect when you smile. Add the fact that gold is metal and some people just do not like having metals in their internal parts.

Zirconium crowns are definitely more robust than porcelain crowns. They last longer too, compared to porcelain that chip and break.
Porcelain crowns also need to be fused to a metal base and the metal is that black unsightly line above the gums of people with porcelain crowns.

Since Zirconium crowns are milled from a chunk of crystal, they are guaranteed to be at least 5 times stronger than porcelain and it metal fuse. Zirconium crowns also provide strength without that bulky appearance that porcelain is so known for.
